Ice Pick

The first of the scars is known as the Ice Pick because they are thin and pointy looking. Their width is less than 2mm and looking at a scar of this type you will see that it looks like an ice pick has pierced the skin. The ice pick scars are known to be situated inside the dermis.

Boxcar

Boxcar scars are the next type of scar. They are rounded and look to have very pointed edges. Again this type of scar only goes in as deep as around 0.1mm-0.5mm. Some of these scars have being known to go in to as deep as 0.5mm which is not too uncommon. Boxcar scars are very hard to treat; they are certainly not as easy to treat as the lighter scars.

Rolling

Rolling scars are the last of three types of scars we will look at. The Rolling Scar has a progressing or rolling look about them. The cause of Rolling scars is that the normal skin becomes tethered. Tethered skin can be treated by breaking down the subcutaneous tissue.

The treatment you can get for your acne scars really depends on what type of scarring you have. The work required to clear your acne scars also depends on the scar type. If you have a light scar then it will be much easier to clear than if you have a darker scar. Be aware that some darker, sterner scars may not be totally removed from your face, but you can speak to your doctor about what he might suggest for a more severe scar.
